We have complained how Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and X-Men: Apocalypserevealed a little too much about their plots and even their huge surprises in the trailer. While BVS trailer showed us that Batman and Superman come together to defeat Doomsday, Apocalypse shows us that Xavier and Magneto become friends again, and they will survive the onslaught ofApocalypse.
Unfortunately, even the Sultan trailer joins their club. Though the trailer was very exciting, it also revealed the lot about the film as well. When i say, a lot, I mean a LOT! But before we get into it, let’s check out what’s the basic plot is that we knew before we get into the trailer.
The film stars Salman Khan as Sultan Ali Khan, a national-level Indian wrestler, who went on to win gold medal at Olympics (it’s Salman Khan so why should his character settle for anything less than gold). Anushka Sharma plays his love interest, who is also a wrestler and a national level champion as well. The trailer of the film shows their love story, as well as Sultan’s journey of redemption from being promising sportsman to a national and international champion to familling down to a nobody, then rising again to be a champion! The film is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, who previously directed Katrina Kaif in Mere Brother ki Dulhan and Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra in Gunday.
So what did the trailer show us?
It started off with establishing that Sultan is a famous akhada wrestler of Haryana…
He falls in love with a female wrestler, because she is pretty and is being played by Anushka Sharma!
However for Sultan, his ultimate life ambition is to win at the highest level of sporting event, and that’s Olympics!
But after the win, perhaps he thinks a bit too much about himself and becomes very condescending…to the point that she slaps reporters (now where have we heard about this before?)
Anushka doesn’t like his attitude, maybe gives him back, and could probably leave him to his attitude (now this is something I have definitely heard before…)
Salman Khan realises that he has done some wrong, perhaps something huge (which the trailer might have hidden from us)…to the point that he breaks his own statue…
He retires from public life, and becomes an everyday man…far away from spotlight (it’s easy since he is not a cricketer)!
Maybe Anushka returns to his life, and inspires him to return to glory, so instead of wrestling, for some reason (I bet huge money), he opts for MMA!
However, lack of practice has turned our Bhai to….ughhh…this! (But he still retains his biceps and pecs…)
The coach, like any A-hole coaches in any sports film, dismisses this 40-year old has-been the first time.
But Sultan remembers his movies, floors some trainee wrestler there and impresses the coach! ‘cos Salman needs no training, training needs Salman!
Thus starts their training sessions…so inspired by the DVD’s of Grudge Match and Creed, and lest we forget, any Rocky Balboa film!
Soon, it’s time for the MMA contest to start…
Sultan came, saw and conquered…
…and this could be his final match where he emerges the victor!
